The Human Knowledge Project
Unit 20 — Staying Healthy
Welcome back!
Your body is amazing.
Every day it helps you:
- learn
- play
- run
- jump
- think
- grow
Taking good care of your body helps you enjoy life and do your best each day.
Eating Healthy Foods
Our bodies need many different kinds of healthy foods.
A healthy meal often includes:
- fruits
- vegetables
- whole grains
- proteins
- dairy or other calcium-rich foods
Eating a variety of healthy foods gives our bodies the nutrients they need to grow.
Drinking Water
Water is one of the most important things our bodies need.
Water helps us:
- stay hydrated
- keep cool
- digest food
- carry nutrients through our bodies
Choose water often, especially after playing or exercising.
Being Active
Our bodies are made to move.
Healthy activities include:
- walking
- running
- jumping
- dancing
- riding a bicycle
- swimming
- playing games
- stretching
Being active helps build strong muscles, healthy hearts, and strong bones.
Getting Enough Sleep
Sleep helps our bodies and brains recover from each day.
While we sleep:
- our bodies grow
- our brains organize what we learned
- we prepare for a new day
A good night's sleep helps us learn better and feel our best.
Keeping Clean
Healthy habits also include staying clean.
Remember to:
- wash your hands with soap and water
- brush your teeth every day
- bathe or shower regularly
- wear clean clothes
- cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
These habits help prevent the spread of germs.
Caring for Our Feelings
Being healthy also means caring for our emotions.
Everyone experiences many feelings, such as:
- happiness
- excitement
- sadness
- frustration
- worry
It is healthy to talk with trusted adults about our feelings.
Listening carefully to others and showing kindness helps everyone.
