Unit 17 — Healthy Living
Welcome back!
Healthy habits help us grow, learn, and enjoy life.
When we care for our bodies and minds, we have more energy to play, learn, and help others.
Healthy living is built from many small choices we make every day.
Eating a Balanced Diet
Our bodies need many different nutrients.
A balanced diet includes foods such as:
- fruits
- vegetables
- whole grains
- proteins
- dairy or other calcium-rich foods
Eating a variety of healthy foods helps our bodies grow strong.
Sometimes treats are enjoyable, but healthy foods should make up most of our meals.
Drinking Water
Water is one of the most important things our bodies need.
Water helps us:
- stay hydrated
- regulate body temperature
- carry nutrients through the body
- replace fluids lost during activity
Drinking water throughout the day helps us stay healthy.
Exercise and Movement
Regular physical activity keeps our bodies healthy.
Examples include:
- walking
- running
- swimming
- riding a bicycle
- dancing
- stretching
- playing sports
Exercise strengthens muscles, bones, hearts, and lungs.
It also helps improve mood and concentration.
Sleep and Rest
Our bodies and brains need time to rest.
While we sleep:
- our bodies recover
- our brains organize what we learned
- we prepare for a new day
Good sleep helps us think clearly and learn more effectively.
Personal Hygiene
Healthy habits also include keeping our bodies clean.
Remember to:
- wash your hands with soap
- brush your teeth every day
- bathe or shower regularly
- wear clean clothes
- cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
These habits help reduce the spread of germs.
Caring for Our Mental Health
Healthy living includes caring for our thoughts and feelings.
Everyone experiences different emotions.
Healthy ways to manage feelings include:
- talking with trusted adults
- spending time with family and friends
- exercising
- reading
- drawing
- listening to music
- taking quiet time when needed
Asking for help is a sign of wisdom and strength.
Staying Safe
We can help protect ourselves by:
- wearing seat belts
- wearing bicycle helmets
- following safety rules
- being careful near roads
- avoiding dangerous objects
- telling a trusted adult if something feels unsafe
Making safe choices helps prevent injuries.
